Who benefits from reducing animal overpopulation?

- As taxpayers, we pay the bill to pick up, house, and eventually euthanize orphaned pets.
- In 2007 the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reported $34,612,749.93 was spent on animal control (not all of the 104 animal shelters in the State reported).
- Over 3 million tax dollars were spent in eight counties in Central North Carolina to operate animal control centers, where 78% of the animal intake were destroyed.
- According to the 2007 U.S. Animal Shelter Killing Report Card, North Carolina destroyed 242,935 animals in 2005
Today, thousands of animals are killed because there simply are not enough adoptable homes. County animal control facilities and area rescue groups are overcrowded. This will get worse as the number of puppies and kittens born each day far outstrips the number of people born each day! Each year the number of animals in county animal control facilities increases by 13%.
